The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) is a military alliance between 30 North American and European countries. It is based upon a principle of collective self-defence wherein if one of their members is attacked, all 30 countries will come to that member's defence. It was created in an attempt to contain the USSR during the Cold War and is largely still used as a bulwark against Russian aggression today. The following countries, India, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Japan, and South Korea have discussed replicating the clauses of the NATO treaty for themselves, in order to form a NATO-like organization in Asia.
